A recent campaign by the Cross-Border Road Agency (C-BRTA) in Limpopo saw some 298 operators prosecuted for various road traffic and cross-border related offences. According to Sipho Khumalo, chief executive of the C-BRTA, the aim of the Cross Alive campaign, which saw various law enforcement agencies such as SAPS, Sars, Home Affairs and provincial and municipal traffic authorities working hand in hand for two days earlier this month along the N1 just outside Polokwane, the offences ranged from expired licence discs to defective trailer indicator lights. He said during the operation some 700 passenger and freight vehicles were stopped and searched while some 220 illegal immigrants were arrested for trying to jump the border. One truck was escorted by Customs to Musina for inspection and six vehicles were impounded by Customs for temporary permit related matters.
