Crops and livestock at risk as the big freeze approaches

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued an advisory urging livestock farmers and residents of the Karoo to brace themselves for icy weather and possible light snow, as a cold front approaches.

According to Saws, temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C over parts of the Western Cape and the southern parts of the Northern Cape and will affect areas in the Beaufort West, Breede Valley, Hantam, Kannaland, Karoo Hoogland, Laingsburg, Langeberg, Oudtshoorn, Prince Albert and Witzenberg municipalities.

Farmers have warned that low temperatures, particularly in the early hours of the morning, may affect vulnerable crops and livestock.
