LEADING CAPE Town
maritime attorney John Dyason of the firm Findlay and Tait, acting on behalf of the owners and insurers of the Treasure's cargo, is not alone in wondering why a Marine Court of Enquiry has
not been convened into the disaster.
And he told FTW his
information on salvaging the
1 300 tons of bunker oil
had pointed to three options, none of which was exercised.
l It could have been pumped into an available vessel, Oranjemund.
l The salvage tug John Ross which towed the stricken vessel further out to sea could have carried 400 tons at a time, making three trips
l The Russian fleet replenishment vessel Argun, though a 'dead' ship at present', could have been towed to Treasure and taken the entire load.
