Cutting costs across the supply chain has never been as important as in the current market environment, according to Professor Malcolm Dodd, managing director of Coldchain Solutions. “If one looks at a breakdown of the costs it becomes clear that we have to achieve sustainable supply chains. At least 11% of the cost lies in production, 7% in inspection and another 7% for the cold store. Freight costs are around 16.7% while packing materials are estimated to be about 6.8% and packing charges 7%.” Dodd said these were just some of the costs that had to be factored into a supply chain that was only ever at its best at the beginning of the production line.
