As global restrictions due to the coronavirus outbreak begin to impact the shipping industry, crewing specialist Danica reports an increase in enquiries from shipping companies seeking to employ Eastern European crew rather than those of Chinese nationality due to travel bans.
He said the increased demand was relatively small compared to the large number of Eastern European crew available and that salaries had not yet been affected by any shortages.
The trend, said Danica managing director Henrik Jensen, was particularly significant where crew changeovers were overdue.
