THE TEN year period between 1996 and 2006 has seen the volume of containers handled worldwide treble in number. China, predictably, has led the charge since 1998 followed by the US in second place, according to a recent report by the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics. SchedNet.com reports that the US has seen its share of world container trade shrink from 16% to 11% during this period.
