LEONARD NEILL WHILE MANY clearing and forwarding agencies have started their operations with sea freight and moved to air freight later, the reverse has been the tale with Consolidation & Wholesale Cargo East Coast (CWC). Based 2km from Durban International Airport they swung into the airfreight business from the outset. Established in November 2005 they set up an airfreight export consolidation and wholesale service. But soon the needs of the customers were apparent, and with a network of worldwide agents, they were into import and export forwarding by air and sea. CWC now has a branch office in Johannesburg, agents in Cape Town and holds contracts and price agreements with various airlines and general sales agents, says operations manager Alton Tippins An airfreight consolidation service is available to more than 500 destinations worldwide, with shipments consigned to agents utilising airlines of their choice, he says. This service applies to general cargo only. Collect shipments, door to door and free domicile shipments can be accommodated on the service by arrangement. A separate airfreight export wholesale service has rates common rated with CWC’s consolidation service unless the shipper or consignee nominates a carrier of their choice. Airfreight import consolidation services are available from most major origins worldwide on a weekly or twice-weekly basis. “In the ocean freight field, our LCL export service is available to most worldwide destinations with more popular destinations serviced weekly. FCL export and import services are competitively priced, with particularly attractIve rates from the Far East and Middle East,” he added. CWC also offers container packing for imports and unpacking for exports.
