There were mixed sentiments expressed by Mediterranean Shipping Company chairman, Salvatore Sarno, when he addressed guests at the company’s year-end function in Sandton yesterday.
Top of the agenda were the ongoing delays at the Port of Durban which he said brought hime “a deep sense of sadness”, with some vessels waiting up to five days before entering the harbour. .
”As long as the issues at Transnet remain, the situation will only worsen,” he said.
But with the bad comes the good, and Sarno was upbeat about future plans.
Construction of a new R200-million cruise terminal will begin on November 8.
In conjunction with the development, MSC will launch the Shosholoza Ocean Academy next month, which will create opportunities for 5000 learners.
