Confirmation awaited over Sturrocks takeover

There are a lot of words floating round in the freight industry about Grindrod being in the process of taking over Sturrocks Shipping. Although FTW has been led to believe that this information is correct – we are as yet unable to get official confirmation. We have been awaiting the return of a senior Grindrod executive from an overseas trip, but this has not been in time for the deadline of this week’s issue. In 2009 Sturrock celebrated its 40th anniversary and unveiled a new ‘vision’ – to be globally recognised as a leading ship’s agency, clearing and forwarding and logistics company in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2010 the company acquired the businesses of two ships’ agencies based in Australia.
