THE OUTCOME of the investigation into SpoornetÕs commercial division, which resulted in the suspension of executive business manager Harry Mashele, had not been clarified as FTW went to print but the results were expected during this week, according to CE Zandile Jakavula.
Jakavula said Mashele had been suspended while the investigation took place, following customer complaints about the commercial division which Mashele has headed for more than three years.
Mashele said that there had been allegations made by customers about the commercial
business, but these related largely to patchy service levels. The complaints revolved around contracts forged between Spoornet and customers.
"These allegations prompted Spoornet to implement a suspension pending the
outcome of an enquiry, but there are no charges levelled against me," Mashele said.
Jakavula agreed, saying: "There are no charges at this stage, but management is prepared to take disciplinary action if the investigation warrants it."
He added that he had made it clear to all Spoornet employees, including top management, that they would be subjected to disciplinary action, fired and charged if found guilty of wrongdoing.
But, he also said, solid evidence needed to be produced against employees before he would take such action.
Mashele remains part of SpoornetÕs management structure pending the results of the investigation
