Collaborative plan for maritime industry

A maritime institution that allows for government and private stakeholders to work together in promoting and growing the maritime sector is on the cards following the recent SA Maritime Conference (Samic) 2012. According to Collins Makhado, executive head of corporate strategy for the SA Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa), the need for such an institution was a clear outcome of the three-day event held in Cape Town in July. Speaking to FTW at the Western Cape Exporters’ Club get-together last week, he said the core aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity for government and stakeholders from the maritime sector to come together in order to enhance South Africa’s understanding of the maritime sector.
