Clearing up a misconception

WE REFER to the article headlined "Transhipments show biggest growth" in the special Cape Town supplement (March 2002). The article states that "...Billy Cilliers is quick to offer reassurance that another Durban nightmare scenario is not in the offing." Billy Cilliers did state that the Port of Cape Town would be trying through various mechanisms to minimise shipping delays and relieve any possible congestion at the Cape Town Container Terminal. He did not however state that Durban was a nightmare scenario - this would be counter productive as the National Port Authority (NPA) represents all the ports. It would seem that what could be an industry sentiment has been casually linked to an NPA employee as stated opinion, causing unnecessary complications within the NPA management structure. Motha Mandi, Corporate Affairs Manager, Port of Cape Town Authority Division. l The author of the article, Ray Smuts, did not intend that the remark be attributed to Billy Cilliers as his stated opinion, but rather as a general industry opinion.
