HENNIE TALJAARD, general manager of Cape Town International Airport, was last week cleared of allegations of mismanagement and has resigned from his high-profile post to pursue other interests, tourism specifically.
In a joint media statement released by Airports Company South Africa's Charmaine Lodewyk, general manager for marketing, it was made clear that because of the parties' divergent views on corporate governance, Taljaard had decided to further his career independently of ACSA.
In response to certain allegations rergarding alleged mismanagement at Cape Town International Airport, Airports Company South Africa Limited has conducted an investigation.
The outcome of this investigation has indicated that Mr Talajaard at no time acted dishonestly, nor did he acquire any irregular personal gain from his management of Cape Town International Airport.
One of the most dynamic business executives in the Western Cape, he serves on a number of economic and tourism-related bodies and had been suspended on full pay for five months pending forensic investigations by the Cape Town auditing company KPMG.
Taljaard said at the conclusion of the enquiry that the verdict was as anticipated, therefore it had come as no surprise. He added that in view of what had transpired at ACSA he regarded it as untenable to remain with the company.
He expressed pride at his input with ACSA over the past seven years during which time he helped turn a R19 million financial loss in 1993 into a cumulative profit of R500 million over the years.
