ALAN PEAT DESPITE AN article in the latest issue of Llloyds List, the fast growing SA shipping and logistics group, Grindrod, has nothing to say about any discussions which might be taking place between it and the Danish-based AP Møller shipping group – which owns Safmarine, Maersk Sealand, and now P&O Nedlloyd (PONL). Grindrod “has admitted talking to AP Moller-Maersk about buying the latter’s South African services”, said the report. But Grindrod MD Ivan Clark told FTW that he had not read the article in question; would neither confirm nor deny that discussions were taking place; and refused to interpret what “SA services” might mean. Clark refrained from saying any more than: “I can’t comment.”
