ATA Carnets
now accepted
THE PEOPLE'S Republic of China has agreed to accept the ATA System from South Africans, allowing for the temporary admission of goods to be used at fairs and exhibitions in that country.
The International Bureau of Chambers of Commerce (IBCC) - Working Party 'ATA System' - has announced that the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) has confirmed that foreign ATA Carnets will be accepted by their customs officials effective from March 1 this year.
The introduction of the ATA System in China is an important development for both the expansion and facilitation of trade between South Africa and the Asian region, says Glennalee Hayselden, ATA Carnet co-ordinator at the South African Chamber of Business (SACOB).
The CCOIC becomes the 52nd guaranteeing body member of the IBCC/ATA international guarantee chain, which provides for the temporary admission of a member country without payment of customs deposits or customs declarations.
SACOB is the guaranteeing and issuing authority in South Africa.
