In another version of its ‘Maritime Silk Road’ policy, China’s largest ports group is bidding for investments in European ports.
Shanghai International Port group (SIPG) has just won a contract to build and operate the port in Haifa, Israel.
And this, said a company statement “is just the beginning”.
SIPG chairman, Chen Xuyuan, was quoted as saying in the international press that the Haifa deal “will help strengthen relations between Shanghai Port and other ports along the Maritime Silk Road and form a closer trade network between Shanghai and ports in Europe”.
