CHINA PLANS to increase trade with Africa to over $100 billion (R702 billion) by the year 2010, a senior government official said in Nairobi last week. In its bid to increase imports from Africa and achieve a sustainable balance of trade with the African continent, the country is set to zero-rate tariffs on 442 goods from Africa. This would be achieved, he said, through bilateral preferential trade arrangements and free trade areas. The establishment of a China-Africa development fund will cater for Chinese companies wishing to invest in the continent, he said.
