A specialist company has been formed to meet the increasing demand for the transport of out of gauge cargo within Mozambique and neighbouring countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded in 2008 by the J&J Group, Specialized Transport is headed by managing director Chris Morris. “We can move cargo weighing up to 70 tons, which is the maximum that the Beira Corridor allows at this stage,” he says. Improvements in the port of Beira are driving demand. “Agents are now confident to recommend the port for the importation of project cargo, mining, manufacturing and agricultural equipment,” he says. Specialized Transport aims for the fast turnaround of vehicles, and will run rigs back empty from neighbouring countries rather than risk delays in re loading or border delays. In addition to transporting project cargo and onceoff heavy loads, Specialized Transport provides and manages dedicated fleets of tippers for mines and general construction in the region.
