While the coronavirus outbreak in February, and the blank sailings that followed, may not have had a material negative impact on schedule reliability, with an improving trend heading into June, the same cannot be said about the levels of reliability achieved, according to information gathered by consultancy company Sea-Intelligence.
“We are seeing an improving trend heading into June 2020. However, we were interested to know how many of those services were actually offering a remarkably high level of schedule reliability – and our results were very surprising,” said CEO Alan Murphy in his latest weekly update.
According to Murphy, only 37% of deep-sea services offer over 85% schedule reliability. “We are fast approaching the lowest level we have recorded since we started measuring reliability in 2012. Additionally, only 15% of the services had May 2020 reliability over 95%, which is the lowest recorded share.”
