... and reduces fuel surcharge
CARGOLUX AIRLINES will reduce its fuel surcharge for exports to Europe from April 16. The surcharge will drop from 15 UScents/kg to 10 UScents.
The airline has also announced that it will offer more space out of Johannesburg International Airport on Friday flights northbound. Previously it was restricted to 10tons per flight on its twice-weekly schedule which travels via Nairobi.
Kenyan demands had called for more space from that centre to Europe, but the overall 20 tons per week allocated to Johannesburg has now been lifted to 58 tons, mainly as a result of Kenyan exporters favouring the Monday flights northwards over the Friday option.
ÒDemand out of South Africa has been increasing rapidly,Ó says CargoluxÕs Stuart Gow. ÒWe are finding that exporters are happy with loads leaving on a Friday. With an excellent road transport link from our hub at Luxembourg, we are able to have all the goods delivered safely by the time business in other parts of Europe opens on Monday morning.Ó
Meat and fish make up the bulk of exports, with increasing demands for ostrich meat becoming more and more evident, especially with foot and mouth restrictions in many parts of the continent.
