Dredging of the Maputo

channel to accommodate

Capesize vessels was

described as a tribute to

Captain Dave Rennie, former

CEO of Grindrod Freight

Services and the chairman of

the Maputo Port Development

Company (MPDC).

“Captain Dave Rennie

was not only our chairman,

he was an inspiring leader

and a dear friend to all

workers at MPDC and the

rest of the Port of Maputo,”

the port said in its tribute

to Rennie, who died in

September 2014.

He was represented at

the ceremony marking the

completion of the dredging

of the approach channel by

his children Amy and Lloyd

Rennie.

“A special thanks to two

people who are no longer

among us, but without

whom this project would

not make sense because

it was also dreamed by

them: captain Henk

Webster who left in 2013

and our mentor captain

Dave Rennie,” said MPDC

chief executive officer

Osório Lucas.
