Burundi is set to build a 220-kilovolt power-transmission line, which will connect to a hydropower dam located in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project will assist in reducing electricity shortages in the east Africa nation, reports Bloomberg news.
The 78km link will cost US$35 million, Burundi’s energy minister, Come Manirakiza, was cited as saying, adding that funding would come from the African Development Bank and German-based KfW Development Bank.
Burundi vice president, Joseph Butore, told Bloomberg that government would compensate land owners for disruptions caused by the construction of the power line.
