South Africa’s total citrus crop for 2014 is predicted at almost 115 million cartons – breaking all records. CEO of the Citrus Growers’ Association South Africa (CGA), Justin Chadwick, said: “The industry certainly showed that it can overcome adversity. Unfortunately record volumes do not always mean record profit; the massive costs resulting from adherence to European Union (EU) citrus black spot (CBS) measures and their disruption to trade will have an effect on grower returns.”
