Bulk wine transport doubles capacity

The tide has turned in the wine export sector, and bulk rather than bottled wine is the way of the future. “It makes sense,” says Marliese Martine, managing director of JF Hillebrand, “as it doubles capacity “A single container holds 10 584 litres of bottled wine compared to the 24 000 litres of wine in a flexi-tank system,” said Martin. “This cuts transportation costs dramatically. Moreover it reduces carbon emission – in some cases by up to 50% – and importing wines in bulk and bottling them at destination using recycled, lightweight glass further reduces carbon emissions.”
