The opening last week
of a container park and
bulk manganese packing
and distribution centre in
Bloemfontein puts into practice
what Transnet has been
pushing for years – public/
private partnerships.
Bloemfontein Container
Park (BCP) and Logistics
Intelligence (LQ), in
partnership with
Onnyx Network Holdings, are
the prime movers behind the
facility which they believe adds
a key dimension to the logistics
corridor.
It’s all about
providing
an allencapsulating
landside
service to
the South
African freight
industry,
says Onnyx
Network
Holdings CEO
and longtime
industry
veteran Jan
Nair – and he believes the
combined entities do just
this. LQ has a strong national
footprint, playing in the
domestic landside space,
while Onnyx Network
Holdings,
through its
subsidiaries,
provides long-distance
transport, rail and shorthaul
road and warehousing and
cargo handling.
“The Northern Cape holds
80% of the
world’s supply
of manganese
and we
wanted to
support
Transnet
Freight rail’s
initiatives
to enhance
the supply
chain for the
handling and
transportation
of this product
by rail through the logical
Bloemfontein corridors to Port
Elizabeth and Durban. TFR is
upgrading and expanding the
rail terminal in Bloemfontein
and work is nearing
completion. Our investment
therefore made practical sense.”
INSERT & CAPTION
