‘Check the status of your shipment via cellphone’

a simple operation.
THE NEED for compliance to 32bit networks and third party solutions has prompted Clearing Support Services to enter the Windows environment. Now the Clearlink 500 DOS system is available in a 32bit Windows platform, says director Roger Shaw.
“The same slick ‘hot key’ logic has been extended to include a colourful Windows presentation without losing the reliability and speed that Clearlink users have become accustomed to,” he says. “This programme utilises all those Windows features they grew up with, mouse click, clearly visible search buttons, pop-up prompts, copy and paste, etc. They immediately make you feel at home in a familiar computer environment.”
Other distinct advantages, says Shaw, are the Windows communication facilities such as SME and e-mail, database compliance in ODBC and/or SQL, and Windows multitasking. Bills can be sent via the Windows communications device to any recipient. Seamless data movement from branch to branch is a simple operation enabling the smooth working of invoicing, general administration and centralised accounting. Status reports of declarations can be pulled as they pass through customs or international administration via SMS.
“Imagine the status of your shipment being displayed on your cellphone while you are stuck in the traffic on the R21 on the way to Johannesburg International Airport. Our programme will also include extended report writing facilities that will enable clients to draw up reports to their own specifications.”
An imports module is already available and further modules are in the process of being developed according to the priority list set up after consultation with various clients. The good news for current clients using the DOS based version, says Shaw, is that the Windows version is totally compatible with clients’ existing database, ensuring that no data is lost.
“Our nine support staff are based in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town with representation in Windhoek. All have been specifically selected for their commitment and dedication to deliver top class service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are always available by cellphone.
“With a collective experience of 91 years in the freight industry, and 108 years in the computer industry, clients are assured of comprehensive service levels. This includes advice on hardware requirements and networking problems.
“Our programming department has been expanded to six highly trained and motivated members, qualified to develop systems ranging from integrated Web platforms and 32bit Windows to Linux based systems. They work hand-in-hand with the support staff to ensure our programmes are continuously updated as per customs specifications, and to customise these programmes to client requirements.”
