WITH A 55.8% increase in its IATA turnover, Impson Freight was one of the nine airfreight agents who bust the industry average growth of almost 50% for the year. With its turnover of R18.4-million, the company firmly placed itself at number 27 in the league for 2003. A good year for exports was how Impson executive Marvin Naidoo happily saw things. “We had a good share of exports of clothing to the US,” he told FTW, “with the US Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) giving special impetus. “Exports into Africa also grew tremendously with cargo from across the range excluding perishables.” Impson’s client base also expanded through the year, Naidoo added, and the company was able to capitalise on this growth. At the same time, its traditional market destination in Europe also showed a major increase in demand. The company’s branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pietermaritzburg all showed significant increases in 2003, and each made a contribution to the year’s turnover. “We also moved into new facilities at Jet Park in the latter half of the year,” said Naidoo, “and we can now build our unit load devices (ULDs) on the premises. “The 2 000 m2 of warehousing were purpose-built for loading and off-loading containers – with dock levellers included.”
