Dry port facilities operated in the port of Walvis Bay by Sea-Rail (Botswana) are being marketed to exporters and importers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia.
Sea-Rail, a subsidiary of Botswana Railways, has been operating the facility since 2013. Significant investments have been made in the construction of its office block and equipment. The dry port has a fully paved bonded yard space of 36 200 sqm, says the Dry Port manager Derick Mokgatle.
“Our objective is to provide a one-stop logistics and transport solution in order to help importers and exporters to counter the ever-increasing port and other tariffs levied.”
The master plan of the dry port includes a reefer station, a multipurpose warehouse facility, a rail spur and fuel station,” he says. “The Dry Port is being developed in phases, and recently issued a tender for the construction of a Rubb Hall to facilitate the handling of minerals and other commodities on behalf of shippers in the SADC region.
