Border posts rained out

Three border posts between SA and Botswana were closed last week after the Limpopo River overflowed its banks and flooded out the customs premises. The Groblersbrug/Martins Drift border post was deluged after the heaviest rains in the past 17 years, according to Hannes Rust of Namgola Logistics. The border post was flooded out and shut down, and the bridge (Groblersbrug) over the Limpopo River was closed because of suspected damage to the structure. Towards the end of the week, according to Piet Kgole Molwantwa of Manica, the customs premises had been cleared up, but officials were still inspecting the bridge. Two other border gates between SA and Botswana were also closed – with the Zanzibar and Platjan posts also flooded when the Limpopo River overflowed.
