BOOK YOUR cargo on Etihad and stand in line to win one of ten A330-600 freighter models and one Garmin road navigator in a competition launched this month by Airline Cargo Resources in conjunction with Etihad Crystal Cargo. (See pages 8&9). Etihad Crystal Cargo launched its service on the Johannesburg-Abu Dhabi route in December 2005. The initial twice-weekly service using B777 aircraft was upgraded in August 2007 to a daily flight deploying A330 aircraft. Connections are offered from Abu Dhabi into all the major European cities, Middle East, India, Asia, Far East and Australasia. “The route has been extremely successful for Etihad on both the passenger and cargo fronts,” says ACR general manager Stuart Tonkin. “The airline has secured contracts with various agents for regular uplift and base loads, with a substantial amount of free sale capacity on offer as well.” Etihad Airline recently placed an order with Boeing and Airbus for up to 205 aircraft, the largest order from a single carrier in aviation history. The deal comprises 100 firm orders, 55 options and 50 purchase rights in a combination of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. “This order underscores the carrier’s commitment to investment and growth,” said Tonkin.
