Asia will lead the boom ALAN PEAT IN THE next 20 years worldwide airfreight can be expected to treble, according to the latest air cargo forecast from US planemakers, Boeing. It calculates that growth is expected at an average annual rate of 6.1% during the next two decades – all of which adds up to that three-fold increase. It’s going to be Asia that is the boom area in this growth scenario until 2025, with intra-Asia and domestic China traffic being the star performers, according to Nicole Piasecki, Boeing’s vice president for business strategy and marketing. “International air cargo traffic growth will be driven by increased global trade, increased liberalisation of air services and the improving technologies that our industry continues to incorporate,” he told FTW, “as well as increases in lower hold capacity and more fuel-efficient freighters.
