BLG Logistics of South Africa is the first logistics supplier to earn the overall Supplier of the Year award from General Motors South Africa. The company was one of 17 suppliers, out of around 237 eligible local suppliers to GMSA, recognised in five categories for the 2012 Supplier of the Year awards, which were made recently in Port Elizabeth. The logistics company manages GM South Africa’s Vehicle Conversion and Distribution Centre (VCDC) based in Markman Township in Port Elizabeth. Speaking at the awards, GMSA vice president of global purchasing and supply chain, John Astbury, said BLG’s flexibility had helped to cater for the company’s everchanging needs. “This was demonstrated on many occasions during 2012 where there was a high expectation from the GMSA team due to increased yard inventory. Their sense of urgency and professionalism around general yard activities is of a high standard.” The annual awards are aimed at recognising GMSA suppliers who have excelled in four key areas – quality, service, technology and price. In addition to the Supplier of the Year, 16 more suppliers received recognition in various categories for excellent support. Autobax won a supplier award in the P&A Warehouse category.
