Almost three months after huge chemical blasts at China’s northern port of Tianjin flattened a huge area of the port precinct and killed more than 160 people, the city authorities have aimed heavy legal guns at Zheng Qingyue, president of Tianjin Port Group.
He has been fired from his post and faces a prosecution for dereliction of duty, according to state media.
A Reuters report also revealed that he will be removed from his positions at the city’s international trade and shipping service centres, according to the Tianjin government website.
The state newspaper, the People’s Daily, said Zheng’s assistant, Li Hongfeng, and the deputy chief of the chemical firm’s safety bureau, Zheng Shuguo, would also face criminal prosecution for dereliction of duty.
