BUSINESS HAS been brisk for Birkart
Globistics which has gained valuable
market share, says branch manager in
Durban, George Le Merle.
“The industry has become very
competitive with constant challenges,
but Birkart has developed a strong
and progressive management team
which reflects in its results,” he said.
The company has a strong
focus on the automotive, fashion
and project cargo niches. “We are
also taking on warehousing and
distribution to meet the demands
of the market. Our Johannesburg
branch is currently increasing its
warehouse space. The Port Elizabeth
branch has recently acquired a
new warehouse, and in Durban a
warehouse is currently being built
and should be ready by September,”
he said.
In terms of port operations, Le
Merle believes there is a need for
increased container terminal space
and equipment to meet the growing
volumes moving through the port as
shipping lines increase their tonnage.
“Business can be very good,
provided we are able to keep up with
the changes in the political, legislative
and environmental climates ahead.”
