Beware of SARS stats errors

BEWARE OF errors in the trade figures for the last three months is the warning from Standard Bank economics
division.
Attempts to compare month-on-month changes in the various import and export
categories over the last
quarter would be a futile exercise, according to the Standard.
This as the various components of November and December's data have not been adjusted - although SARS has acknowledged that there were errors in the data, said the trade flash.
Previously, SARS
indicated that a
R4.3-billion deficit and a R9.1-bn surplus had been recorded on the trade balance for November and December.
The revised figures should show surpluses of R1-bn and R4-bn respectively.
