Euro 5's emission limits are considerably lower than its Euro 4 predecessor, resulting in significant reductions of NOx emissions. With the new UD Euro 5 range, cleaner emission is achieved thanks to UD Trucks' Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. SCR technology converts harmful emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapour using AdBlue.
In the trucking industry, there are two key technologies for reducing emissions: Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). UD Trucks was the first truck manufacturer to introduce SCR technology in 2004. As a result, SCR has not only reduced NOx levels emitted from trucks but also enhances fuel economy and improves engine performance. SCR technology is more widely used in heavy and extra heavy duty, as it allows the optimisation of the fuel efficiency, while EGR reduces engine power and fuel efficiency, oil drain intervals are reduced with higher oil contamination, and reduces engine life due to increased soot deposits
