Fast-growing economies are suffering the most in today's fight against Covid-19, which has impacted global economies the hardest. Aside from the health crisis, there are other perennial challenges such as rising waste mountains, a shortage of drivers, and the need for better fuel efficiency. Despite efforts to promote environmental awareness, pollution continues to plague our planet. As a result, environmentally friendly operations are no longer just a "nice to have", but a "must have", so we can drive a post-pandemic recovery that can give us major economic benefits in the areas of innovation and job creation.

At UD Trucks our aim is to work towards bettering lives, always moving forward as we stand true to our Japanese heritage and promise to deliver the ultimate in dependability. Our latest example is the launch of Euro 5 ahead of regulations in key markets, including South Africa. Our trucks will continue to contribute to the success of the logistics chains of our customers as well as reach bigger and more attainable sustainability goals.

Euro 5's emission limits are considerably lower than its Euro 4 predecessor, resulting in significant reductions of NOx emissions. Furthermore, Euro 5 engines will see an increase in fuel efficiency and power, in addition to cleaner emissions. We still have a long way to go, however by implementing the new emission standard, we can make even greater improvements in air quality and ensure everyone's health and well-being.

Achieving sustainability is an ongoing process. While making the switch will require an upfront investment, the fuel savings plus improved service intervals and increased uptime will offset these initial costs over time. The ultimate payoff is lower environmental impact and a better life for everyone.

With the new UD Euro 5 range, cleaner emission is achieved thanks to UD Trucks' Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. SCR technology converts harmful emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapour using AdBlue.

In the trucking industry, there are two key technologies for reducing emissions: Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). UD Trucks was the first truck manufacturer to introduce SCR technology in 2004. As a result, SCR has not only reduced NOx levels emitted from trucks but also enhances fuel economy and improves engine performance. SCR technology is more widely used in heavy and extra heavy duty, as it allows the optimisation of the fuel efficiency, while EGR reduces engine power and fuel efficiency, oil drain intervals are reduced with higher oil contamination, and reduces engine life due to increased soot deposits

Today, within our range we have trucks that are compliant with more stringent emissions standards to make sure our customers can continue to operate non-stop. In addition to our commitment to having a positive impact on our customers' logistics chains with lower environmental impact, our number one priority is ensuring that what we offer can operate effectively and efficiently. Our success, as well as that of our customers, depends on evolving together.

The dedication to providing transportation solutions that the world needs today remains, and we are always looking for new ways to innovate. In an era when consumers' needs are evolving globally, UD Trucks goes the extra mile to ensure sustainable logistics and a better life for the planet.
