RAY SMUTS THE appointment was kept close to the chest by the powers-that-be but it emerged at week’s end that Bert Muys, former South African MD of now defunct P&O Nedlloyd, is the new helmsman of Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) in this country. He succeeds Dave Giraudeau who resigned a few months ago. February 1 marked the entry of the Japanese carrier into the European trade. MOL’s participation comes after P&O Nedlloyd, formerly a 30% stakeholder in the SA Europe Container Service consortium along with fellow carriers Maersk Line, Safmarine and Deutsche-Afrika Linien (DAL), was acquired by AP Moller-Maersk and became a spent force after many years of trading with South Africa.
