Congestion and corruption have declined at Zimbabwe’s Beitbridge border post following the removal of “menacing police officers” under president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule, according to acting Zimbabwe Ambassador in South Africa, Mietani Chauke.
She was addressing a crowd of South Africa-based Zimbabwe citizens who gathered in Johannesburg last Friday for a belated celebration of Zimbabwe’s 38th year of Independence.
“The police that are on the road now are those that are required on the roads. It is different from the previous era,” said Chauke. Consul general at the Zimbabwe Consulate in Johannesburg, Henry Mukonoweshuro, added that the new dispensation had seen a lot of renewed investment interest from South Africa and abroad.
“We are very happy. I think we are inundated at the embassy in Pretoria, and at the consulates in Johannesburg and Cape Town – there are a lot of inquiries that are coming around. We are happy with that influx of investors and enquiries,” he said.
