BRITISH AIRWAYS World Cargo has extended its weekly freighter service northbound from Johannesburg to include Cologne. Linked road services from the German city allow for quick and easy transfers to other European destinations. The long-standing ‘fifth freedom’ right the airline enjoys, which allows for the dropping off and collection of cargo on the European mainland, has enabled BAWC to meet customer demands from the African region, says freighter sales manager John Cheetham. The 747-400 freighter operates every Friday from Johannesburg stopping in Accra and Vitoria before proceeding to Cologne, prior to its arrival at London Stansted on Saturday afternoon. “The addition of Cologne to our freighter schedule has proved extremely popular for our customers, not only in South Africa, but also those on mainland Europe through the transit of freight from Germany into Stansted,” says Cheetham.
