AU’s infrastructure action plan set for implementation by 2020

The African Union (AU) Priority Action Plan – comprising 51 cross-border programmes in the four sectors of energy, transport, trans-boundary water and information and communications technology – is expected to be fully implemented in Africa by 2020.

These programmes are aimed at catalysing further infrastructure investments in Africa, opening up important trade routes for landlocked countries, dramatically increasing access to improved infrastructure and supporting other economic activities, said the African Union (AU) in a press release.

Crucial to the implementation of these projects is the involvement of the private sector and the development of tools to meet the demand for project-related information, said the AU.

The AU and the New Partnership for Africa's Development, in collaboration with the African Development Bank, will meet in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from November 13 to 17 to discuss the fast-tracking of the Priority Action Plan.
