SHOE IMPORTERS should start preparing and submitting their applications for 1998/9 shoe permits now.
That's the advice from Safcor's import department which points out that current import permits expire on September 19.
No clearances of shoes are permitted without the relative import permit, even though these are freely available for products originating in member countries of the World Trade Organisation, a spokesman said.
The issue of an import permit can take up to six weeks. Other importers entitled to second-half allocations should also submit their applications without delay.
