The P&O Nedlloyd Algoa sailed from Port Elizabeth last Friday, heading for Yokohama from where she will launch the new PONL Asia-SA-South America service in early April.
This followed the official naming of the new ship by Louise Asmal, wife of Minister of Education, Kader Asmal.
There is something symbolic in naming the ship in Algoa Bay, said Nigel Pusey, PONL m.d. This, he said, because it's the heart of where we see we can build the hub of our future operations.
