A three-ton Jetstream 4100 freighter has added airlift capacity to southern African countries, including Zambia. “The freighter opens numerous doors for the freight industry, as it is being operated as a daily and overnight express service. It also enables Airlink Cargo to expand its footprint into Africa,” says Airlink Cargo managing director Alwyn Rautenbach. The airline operates a daily freight service to Lusaka and Ndola, carrying approximately a ton a day to each destination, according to Rautenbach. The additional capacity will cater for growth in trade on the routes, he says. “We assist in the fast movement of products. “With our new freighters, it will be possible to provide a dedicated perishable service between South Africa and Zambia,” he says. Transit times are also being speeded up through the introduction of an electronic airwaybill system, “which gives Airlink Cargo competitive advantage by creating a more hands-on traceable service. “This streamlines the delivery and acceptance procedure, and makes on-line tracking possible,” he says.
