There is not a single
African airline in the Top
60 of the airline safety
ranking for 2016 compiled
by the Jet Airliner Crash
Data Evaluation Centre
(Jacdec), which provides
global safety analyses.
All the world’s major
airlines are there. But also
quite a number of much
smaller outfits. However,
not a sign of SAA, once
the proud bearer of the
SA national f lag in world
rankings, and certainly
not any of the other
carrier operations on the
continent.
Fortunately, there was
also no African country or
airline involved in Jacdec’s
records of 12 incidents
involving aircraft last
month up to the 14th.
There were two
‘incidents’ in the US; two
‘incidents’ in Turkey; and
two ‘serious incidents’ in
Russia. The other ‘serious
incidents’ were in Portugal,
Pakistan, Iran and South
Korea; and other ‘incidents’
in Japan and Hungary.
