Airfreight industry snaps up new cardboard packaging

Joy orlek EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES demand exceptional solutions, which is what Mitchell Packers’ new cardboard box and pallet combination is all about. Launched in January in response to new legislation governing the use of wooden pallets and packaging, the box has proved a winner for airfreight shipments. The first mention of the product in FTW attracted a barrage of responses, according to Mitchell Packers’ Deirdre Mitchell. “This pallet and box only weighs 3kg making it perfect for airfreight,” says Mitchell. “It’s ideally suited to overborder traffic because of the ISPM 15 legislation, which demands documented proof that all wooden packaging and pallets have been fumigated with methyl bromide and that only heat treated timber is used. Failure to comply will result in the box being returned at the sender’s expense. “There are no extra expenses for fumigation and no extra paperwork trail. In fact it’s the answer to a nightmare-free export,” says Mitchell. The box is available in three standard sizes and can be assembled on site to save space when moving them empty.
