Operations at Cape Town International Airport were expected to return to normal by the evening of July 29 following a power outage that disrupted incoming and outgoing flights, Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa) said.
The outage prevented at least two flights from Maputo and a KLM aircraft from landing, Acsa regional general manager Mark Maclean has said.
He added that an SAA and Airlink flight had also been compromised.
“There are four aircraft that had to be diverted to other stations,” Maclean said.
The power failure affected runway lights and navigational services, but ongoing restoration work means the airport will hopefully be fully operational without any further delay.
Maclean said despite disruption at the airport, 11 aircraft had arrived safely last night.
“We still had landings at 1am, 2am, all the way through to 4am this morning (July 29).”
