Aircraft debris found on Reunion from Boeing 777

The international press has revealed that the aircraft debris that washed up on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion has been verified by French authorities together with aircraft manufacturer Boeing, US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Malaysian team as being from a Boeing 777, the same model as Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The plane part was flown to Paris on Saturday and was taken to Toulouse to undergo more detailed analysis.

And it appears that there are hopes that the 2-2.5 metre (6.5-8 feet) long wing flaperon and a fragment of luggage could yield forensic clues to the fate of the missing flight and its 239 passengers and crew.

Representatives from Malaysia, the US, China, France and Boeing are due to participate in a “verification” of the flaperon tomorrow (Wednesday), while the luggage fragment has been sent to a police unit outside Paris for DNA tests.

Meanwhile, more pieces of metal debris found washed up on Reunion were taken into police custody on Sunday. But a source in the French investigation said it is too early to say what they are.
