African air carriers continue to show largest growth in freight demand

African air carriers recorded the largest year-on-year growth of all regions in air freight demand in May, according to data released by the International Air Transport Association (Iata) on Wednesday.

Due to strong growth on the trade lanes to and from Asia, freight volumes increased by 27.6%, while capacity grew by 14.7%.

“African carriers topped the international growth chart in May for the seventh time in nine months,” added an Iata spokesperson.
