National carrier on the cards for Zambia The Zambian government is in “consultative talks” to launch a national carrier this year, said transport, works, supply and communication minister Yamfwa Mukanga. Speaking to the Lusaka Times, Lukanga reportedly said government was also negotiating partnerships to this end. An announcement is expected in the 2014 budget speech. West African services launched Eagle Atlantic Airlines is the first privately owned Ghanaian airline to have been licensed to operate both domestic and international f lights as well as cargo in November last year. It offers threeweekly commercial operations with f lights from Accra, Ghana to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Monrovia in Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone. Kenya airport open for business Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is now fully operational following the devastating fire in August last year, says the Kenya Airports Authority. It now handles six international cargo f lights from Europe, Africa and Asia. New planes for Air Cote d’Ivoire Ivory Coast’s national carrier Air Cote d’Ivoire will borrow US$114 million from Cairobased lender African Export-Import Bank to finance the purchase of two new aircraft, two Q400 NextGen aircraft from Bombardier Inc with an option to purchase two additional planes. The planes will be delivered in September and October 2014 and will allow the airline to service the domestic and regional network.
