‘Bring us your problem and we will find an answer’

SOFTWARE PROVIDER Advanced Customs Solutions is now EDI enabled and is sending test messages to the Department of Customs & Excise.
“We are now on an equal footing with the rest of the software providers in this industry,” says managing director CJ Pagel. “Until recently we have been on the back foot as a competitor, but now we are miles ahead in terms of technology. It’s a Windows product in a class of its own and this in only 13 months of development.”
Starting with the tariff book and export module, with the aim of targeting the export market rather than the broker market, the design and simplicity caused a stir in the clearing industry and proved so promising that by popular demand, imports was soon introduced along with an agent invoicing system, he says.
“As a result of the Windows design of the programme, third party functionality became a seemingly impossible reality. For example, having a Windows faxing system enables you to fax directly from the programme by just selecting the fax printer. E-mailing is just as simple as saving the bill of entry as a file allows you to e-mail it and the recipient simply, opens it as an attachment.
“This is a fully integrated Windows product, not just Windows front ends or back ends, hiding MS-Dos functionality,” says director Paul Ramdaloo. “This seems to be the popular route of going into the Windows environment, rather than re-writing the system entirely. The development tools on offer also help keep you abreast of system enhancements, so we are assured of staying at the forefront of technology where others are being left behind. Right now our product has been enhanced so that it looks and runs like Windows XP, as well as encompassing the Windows XP operating system features.” ACS now plans to start development of the logistical and distribution aspect of the industry as this is now in great demand.
“Our clients, because of the growing demand, are now under pressure to make use of technology, so integration becomes an enormous factor,” says Ramdaloo. “If you are using sequel databases this just isn’t an issue. Preparing simple scripts allows data flow from one database to another with no duplicate capture. With all of this in mind our philosophy has become one of ‘bring us your problems and we will provide you with the solution’ .”
